Mobile Slewing Crane – Over 100 Tonnes

• Steel cap boots, high visibility shirt, hard hat, safety glasses.
  • We recommend long sleeve shirts and long trousers and UV sunscreen. Steel cap runners are not acceptable. Safety sunglasses may be acceptable.
• Reasonable health fit for rigging work.
  • You must advise us of any health issues that may place you or others at risk. This will not preclude your enrolment but, will allow us to determine appropriate adjustments to your training and physical activities.

The purpose of our C0 crane course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate a slewing mobile crane with a capacity of over 100 tonnes in many worksites across Australia

A Slewing mobile crane is defined as a mobile crane incorporating a boom that can be rotated and can be equipped with different lifting gear such as ropes, chains, and sheaves. A slewing crane’s primary use is to raise and lower materials and move them in a horizontal plane. It does not include front end loader, excavator, backhoe or alternative earth moving machinery when configured for the operation of a crane.

The content of this course will provide students with the ability to plan work using a crane with a capacity of over 100 tonnes, perform before and after operational checks, set up a slewing crane for operations including the movement and positioning of the crane, transferring a load safely according to procedures and finally shutting down and securing the crane in a safe manner.

Training will be provided by our highly knowledgeable trainers through written and practical teachings at our onsite training facility in Brisbane. The training material will include the following;

• Potential hazards associated with operating a crane of over 100 tonnes
• Risk assessment using the hierarchy of controls
• WHS legislation, Australian standards, and codes of practice relevant to crane operations
• Routine before and after operational checks and shut down procedures
• Setting up and operating a slewing crane with a capacity of over 100 tonnes
• Lifting gear workload and crane rated capacity calculations
• Maintenance of plant and equipment and isolation procedures
• Characteristics and capabilities of a crane of over 100 tonnes
• Transferring loads
• Communication in the workplace
• Personal protective equipment relevant to crane operations

The successful candidate will have the ability to demonstrate the following activities;

• Comply with WHS legislation, Australian standards, and codes of practice
• Identify hazards included traffic, overhead lines, and environmental conditions
• Apply necessary control measures to avoid potential accidents in the workplace
• Estimate workloads and rated capacity using mathematical calculations
• Set up and safely position a slewing crane taking into consideration ground conditions and other affecting factors
• Conduct routine checks of the crane and isolate faulty plant and equipment according to site procedures
• Operate a slewing crane of over 100 tonnes in various working environments
• Transfer loads using relevant crane movements and lifting gear
• Understand the capabilities and limitations when operating a crane with a capacity of over 100 tonnes.
• Document information relevant to crane operations such as incident reports and maintenance records
• Use effective communication with co-workers in the workplace, especially doggers and riggers and ensure appropriate use of communication equipment such as buzzers, two-way radios, and whistles

On successful completion of this course, you will have the knowledge and practical experience to safely operate a slewing mobile crane, with a capacity of over 100 tonnes, across many different job sites in Australia.
