• Adequate English language numeracy and literacy skills. If not, please contact us. We can help.
• Steel cap boots, high visibility shirt, hard hat, safety glasses.
  • We recommend long sleeve shirts and long trousers and UV sunscreen. Steel cap runners are not acceptable. Safety sunglasses may be acceptable.
• Reasonable health fit for this work.
  • You must advise us of any health issues that may place you or others at risk. This will not preclude your enrolment but, will allow us to determine appropriate adjustments to your training and physical activities.

The purpose of our Intermediate Rigging course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform rigging work at an intermediate level within many industries across Australia.

Intermediate Rigging builds on your basic rigging knowledge and includes the rigging of cranes, conveyors, dredges, and excavators along with rigging associated with tilt slabs, demolition work, and dual lifts.

A current class DG and RB High-Risk Work Licence is required as a pre-requisite for this course.

This training will prepare students for intermediate rigging operations and will include the planning of a job, selection of various rigging equipment and how to inspect the equipment, setting up work activities including the erecting and dismantling of structures and associated plant and finally isolation procedures of defective plant and equipment.

All aspects of this course will be taught through written and practical teachings at our onsite training facility in Brisbane. The course content will include the following;

• Hazards, risks and environmental issues associated with intermediate rigging operations
• Safe working load and working load limit calculations
• Interpret workplace structural charts and plans
• Erect and dismantle riggingplant and structures
• Maintenance and isolation procedures of plant and equipment
• Capabilities and limitations of rigging equipment and associated equipment
• Ground conditions and soil types for setting up structures
• Verbal and written communication in the workplace
• Interpret manufacturer’s specifications relevant to all rigging operations
• OHS legislation, Australian standards, and codes of practice, and site-specific documentation relevant to intermediate rigging operations

On successful completion of this course, all applicants will have the knowledge and practical experience to demonstrate the following;

• Identify potential hazards such as ground stability, powerlines, and environmental conditions and apply the necessary control measures using the hierarchy of controls
• Comply with all relevant state and territory legislation related to rigging operations
• Erect and dismantle rigging plant and structures in a safe manner and ensure suitability of ground conditions
• Ability to carry out various rigging tasks including adding and removing tower crane sections, perform multiple crane lifts, and installing and removing panel structures.
• Work safely at heights using the appropriate safety equipment
• Estimate loads using relevant mathematical calculations
• Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, and functions of all rigging and safety equipment
• Communicate effectively in the workplace with co-workers, supervisors and all relevant personnel and ensure appropriate methods of communication such as signage, hand signals, and two-way radios.

On successful completion of this course, you will be prepared for the safe and efficient operations associated with all rigging at the intermediate level including the rigging of various types of cranes and rigging associated with demolition work, dual lifts and beyond.

You will be eligible to undertake the Advanced Rigging training course through Advanced Training and Construction. Our highly skilled trainers and assessors will prepare you for future employment in the more complex rigging operations in industries like construction, mining, offshore drilling and more.
